Our Airbnb couldn't have been in a more perfect place. Right around the corner from the LaBoqueria Market we woke up, went to get coffee and jumped on the bus to get to the Park Guell.
You have to buy tickets early so don't forget to do that! Its beyond worth the wait. We walked around the free part until it was our time to go in! It was designed by Antoni Gaudí, a renowned architect and the face of Catalan modernism. The park was built between 1900 and 1914 and was officially opened as a public park in 1926.
The battery on my camera died even though I use the double pack, I just wasn't paying attention to it and we had to get to the Basilica de La Sagrada Familia for our next ticket times. That too you need to get tickets ahead of time! So we caught the bus back to the airbnb, jumped off and decided to go eat at the La Boqueria Market around the corner. We walked around this time for a bit and looked at all the beautiful fresh foods. It had everything you could imagine. I could definitely see myself going everyday if I lived here. Its unusual for a touristy place to also be a place the locals visit daily.
We ate at Ramblero in the front of the market, a band was playing not too far from us. We ordered a cheese plate for an appetizer that ended up being sooo much bigger than we expected it to be. We both had glasses of white wine and shared the seafood dish which was also so much bigger than we thought. We ended up finishing it all off, grabbing another coffee and heading to the Sagrada Familia.
The Sagrada Familia is a Roman Catholic church designed by Spanish architect Antoni Gaudí. Construction commenced in 1882 and is expected to be done in 2030. The history of the structure is definitely worth the read if you get the chance!
After a couple hours, we did the audio tour guide, we got back on the bus and toured around the city some more. Checking out the other Gaudi buildings and driving past the Olympic buildings. It was a pretty jam packed day.
Since we were staying a block from Les Rambles, the most prominent street in Barcelona we thought we would wind down with a beer, which we got two and they ended up being larger than our heads. For some reason we decided to also share a Sangria and then walk around. We then went to a discotheque, which was Franks first Euro Club experience and it was pretty much amazing.
